Um… No.

It is that time of the year – spring. And, more than sunshine and flowers and flip-flops, spring means LOTS of people staring graduation in the face. And shiny soon-to-be publishing/english graduates + assistant positions = me drowning in CVs.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it. I really do like uncovering the gems and helping Bright Young Things into their chosen career (oh, the poor hopelessly optimistic young darlings!) But given the sheer volume, I do find myself saying No an awful lot.

Most of the time I’m like
Sheldon no

Occasionally I’ll switch it up and be like
Taylor Lautner no

Depending on the caffeine levels in my bloodsteam, I might be like
tired no

This happens fairly often –
Stephen Fry polite no

Then the person will query and they get a
Stephen Fry rude no

Sometimes, an application will come in, and I’m like
Taylor Swift WTF

And THEY might query me and try to get me to change my mind and its a case of
Mercedes Glee HELL NO

And, believe it or not, there are some people out there who think they are so special, that they come back a THIRD time, and it’s a case of
My Little Pony no

I’ve even had THIS reaction once or twice.

But mostly, you can picture me spending my days like this:
Sherlock No

  1. Anything you can do lying down is a win…and that came off sounding seedier than it was intended! Seriously though, saying ‘no’ is a much needed part of my own vocabularly that needs constant attention. Way to set the boundaries when needed!

  2. We like seedier and dirty minded comments here at Bright Meadow. In fact, we encourage them! 😉

I am actually really bad at saying No to people – so it’s a good job I get to practice it a lot doing what I do.

And welcome to BM and the comments 🙂
