Cas’ Toolbox - The sites, programs, and plugins that I use to make my life that little bit easier and enjoyable.:
Programs:

  • VLC Media Player - cross platform media player.
  • WriteRoom - text editing at its simplest. It would be fair to say I live in this program. It is bar far the best computer writing environment I’ve found so far - just you and the insertion point, no distractions.
  • Smultron Text Editor - OS X text editor, great for html, css, and php.
  • MoinX - desktop wiki.
  • Cyberduck - FTP client.
  • Thunderbird - email client - Giving this a trial as Apple Mail upped and died on me. It has its good points, and its bad points. Only time will tell if I keep it as my main client.
  • WordPress - blogging platform

WordPress plugins:

  • BAStats - basic stats. Good for quick checks on page hits and referrers
  • Akismet - my current weapon of choice against spam. Doing a sterling job ( 116,845 bits of spam since I installed it)
  • Akismet Worst Offenders Extension - Akismet Plus! This extension marks out spam from the same source, bundling it together, so it’s even easier to nuke it.
  • Follow URL - zapps the ‘nofollow’ attribute WP 1.5 has set up as default.
  • Gravatar - enables the pretty picture next to peoples names when they comment (if they have a gravatar)
  • Comment Quicktags - the bold, italic, etc buttons that appear on the comment form.
  • Simple Tags - easy way to insert Technorati tags to a post
  • Google Sitemaps Generator
  • WP-ContactForm - simple contact form that can be inserted into any post.
  • WordPress Database Backup - one click database backup.

Web Services:

  • coComment - comment tracking service. Invaluable for tracking the many conversations I have across the web. Bright Meadow is fully coComment integrated
  • del.icio.us - social bookmarking service. Great when you have a nomadic existence between numerous computers like I do.
  • Kaboodle - social comparison tool. At first glance del.icio.us with added screencaptures. Actually a powerful tool to help you compare and organise information for many different websites.
  • Flickr - social photo organisation. A wonderful tool to upload and share (or not, that’s up to you) your pictures. And more. Whenever I have a spare few moments, I have a browse through the public pictures, and frequently waste hours!
  • ClustrMaps - visual tracking of visitors.
  • bugmenot
