- Barely a day goes by when I am not totally bemused by Americans. I have just stumbled across the following that (if true, and I got it from the BBC so the chances are that it is), had me blinking in sheer disbelief. I am not sure which is worse, the statistic, or that they thought to ask this question in the first place!

Millions of Americans, 17% according to a recent survey, seriously believe that the end of the world is coming in their lifetimes and that they will be sucked up through the clouds to heaven.
