txt speak is so passé

Why ever not? If you like him, it’s because of what he does when he’s in your body space. A man’s writing style is irrelevant when he’s breathing down your neck.

Anyone who makes use of “txt spk” is clearly a dick. That’s really all there is to say on the matter.

The way a person speaks and how articulate they are is extremely important to me. It may be very snotty, but I attribute amount of education to the words a person uses. Even though I represent a different generation, I still figure my relationship is worth a few seconds more than constant swear words or slang. Using text speak is another version of this. No, I would not spend time with someone who couldn’t talk or write right.

I’ve got to agree with Cheryl. Even though I know it’s possible (and even perhaps likely) that the other person on the end is intelligent, when they say “cya” and “i luv u”, etc., I immediately think, “Idiot.” I know that’s not fair on my part, but that’s the initial response that always pops up into my head.

Being a bit more fair, ultimately, “txt spk” is just laziness. If you’re a fast typer, it doesn’t take long at all to type “you” or “love”, so why use “u” and “luv”? Hell, it takes me LONGER to type those, simply because my brain is screaming “that’s WRONG!” at me.

I agree with Cheryl and Josh. Text speak is plain lazy and ridiculous. I couldn’t ever be involved with someone who did such a silly thing on a regular basis. Even when I’m talking on instant messenger’s, I’m always picky about who I talk to because it really makes me think less of a person if they text speak often. I can forgive occasionally, but I’m way too egotistical to waste my time on someone that I don’t think is as intelligent as I am.

Communication, and in particular written communication, is a big deal for me. Luckily in this case, we’d been talking a long time before we got to texting, so I was fairly taken with his personality before the dread truth was revealed
If I wasn’t already mildly smitten, I would have to say his text messages would not be making me go weak at the knees. As it is, I’m prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. And make sure that every text I send him is grammatically perfect to try and give some subtle hints…

I think that txt speak has its place; that place is after the other person has impressed you with their eloquence, in writing or in person AND even then, they may only txt ironically.
