QOTW: tagline

QOTW Penguin

I have been feeling for a while that I should change my twitter bio.

I have used several different taglines over the past decade here on Bright Meadow, starting with “Habitual Nervous Reaction”, “Ideas Above My Station”, and “Angelic Fruitcake”, but in the end I keep coming back to “Girl + Internet”. Because that is kinda what Bright Meadow is. Me (the Girl) plus the Internet. The same way my Instagram bio is “Girl + iPhone”.
(If you are feeling clever, let me know what songs the first three tag lines come from).

Twitter was “girl + internet” from the start, and for a while “girl + publishing + internet”, but at the moment is “Hot as hell, a knowing wink, and just the right amount of sauce”. That was how the ever lovely Neko described me and it made me grin. Not that I believe it, but, well, it makes me grin. But is it the best way to describe me on Twitter? If I follow someone, is it the sort of bio that is going to make them want to follow me back? Not that I use twitter for work, but my work and my personal interests are very VERY interlinked and it is not unheard of for me to bump into the CEO I did work with that day at an event in the evening. The Oxford publishing/literary scene is rather… close knit. I don’t shout from the rooftops that Cas/BrightMeadow is CLK or vice-versa, but it’s a pretty open secret. Google my real name and the first thing you find is a link here, for example. Plus, if you didn’t know me, would you get that I was being self-deprecating?

And let’s not even get started on whether a woman of 30+ should refer to herself as “girl”.

So, the question:
What should I have as my bio/tagline on Twitter? and should I also change it here on Bright Meadow?

Let me know what you think.

Sunday Roast: Sparkly!

Sunday Roast

All the links this week have come from people on Twitter. Isn’t Twitter great – I now have a gazillion blog minions out there, all finding fun things for me to roast about, and they don’t even know it. Mwhahahaaaa!!!

To start off with, who didn’t enjoy a good game of tag in the playground? But to play the same game for
23 years? That takes some unique sort of friendship. (from @jonesabi)

This perfectly sums up my attitude to dating. I once dated a guy who had no books in his house. NO BOOKS. AT ALL. He did drive a BMW, but even that couldn’t mitigate the lack of books for long. (from @girlwithtrowel)

Amazing picture of someone feeding birds in Krakow. Seriously, so much better than that sounds. (via @TomChivers)

Like coffee? Love Coffeisseur, a new coffee blog written by @peejaybe.

It goes against the grain to link to the Daily Mail, but this article at least might be worth it: the danger of little princesses. (@mushenska)

I like the odd and the strange and frequently chronicle what I see here on BrightMeadow. But I can honestly say I have never seen anything this strange whilst out and about in Oxford. (via @JillMansell)

And lastly, what happens to lovers while they are sleeping? (@Lu_Loves)

Happy weekend everyone. I am going to go back under the blankets and sleep some more now. I hate being sick. Cas 🙂
