– Barely a day goes by when I am not totally bemused by Americans. I have just stumbled across the following that (if true, and I got it from the BBC so the chances are that it is), had me blinking in sheer disbelief. I am not sure which is worse, the statistic, or that they thought to ask this question in the first place!

Millions of Americans, 17% according to a recent survey, seriously believe that the end of the world is coming in their lifetimes and that they will be sucked up through the clouds to heaven.

– A new addition to the site. Seeing as how my writers block is reaching the proportions of an Oliver Stone film, I figured having the Bookshelf just for my own writing is a bit silly. So it is also the place where you will find reviews of books I have been reading. Go, have a look 🙂 Oh, and you’re not going to appreciate this, but everything style wise is finally controlled in a CSS (something I learnt on this course is actually half useful!)

– Alas poor Micra, I knew him Horatio… For yes, the car is dead. Very very dead. I went to the garage to clear the last few bits out of it on Friday and it looked so sad sitting there in the lot, surrounded by other dead cars. So that is me going Shanks’ Pony for a while. (That is walking everywhere to those of you who aren’t so clued up on archaic british slang).

In happier news, I only have two weeks left at work (though looking at my bank balance, it’s not that happy :S), I have yet to make a (total) fool of myself at Uni this semester (though it is only the start of week 2, give me a chance), and, um, Motorcycle Diaries won best foreign film at the BAFTAs. As far as I was concerned it (or Finding Neverland) should have won best film, but the Aviator was good as well I guess.

– Well, the poor car (I still haven’t found a name for it, and it is looking like it might be a little late now :S) just got picked up by the chap from the garage. He didn’t want to tell me if he thought it could be mended or not, but he did keep repeating “I can’t believe how much that front end has dropped”, and muttered under his breath how he wasn’t sure how he’d get it on the back of the tow-truck. He managed it but it was a close run thing. None of the above is really inspiring confidence in me as to whether the poor beast is repairable or not. Ah well, now I just have to wait to hear back from either the garage or the insurance company. *sigh*

Happy Pancake Day (for yesterday). We actually celebrated it for the first time in a while (the attempts at L’pool don’t count, because we rarely managed to make edilble pancakes). I was flipping like a pro! Great fun was had corrupting the Latvian flatmate with chocolate sauce. We also discovered the secret to eternal (female) happiness, but I’m not going to share, because I feel that the males of this world need to work harder and find it out for themselves *grin*.

Birthday greetings to the newly-straight-haired one, and to the grumpy boy from L’Pool 🙂

– Ding dong, the car is dead… Yes, for my beloved car is a smouldering heap in the car park thanks to bad roadmarkings, even worse parked cars, and just plain bad luck. Waiting to hear the prognosis from the mechanic as we speak.

In more cheerful news, I went to the zoo at the weekend! A parental ploy to cheer me up after the afore mentioned car disaster, and it worked for a while 🙂 This week’s quote was overheard being said by a ten year old lad to his mother when asked why he didn’t want to see the zebra’s. So you can add the humble zebra to the list of evil animals that also includes (if you will cast your mind back a few months) pyscotic penguins.
